Can I use Fisher Alpha Diversity index to study alpha diversity?

Hi all,

I am a little bit confused with the statement that fisher alpha should not be mixed with alpha diversity, i.e. Fisher alpha is index. Does it mean that we cannot used Fisher alpha to study alpha diversity?
