Converting my Master's thesis into an article and getting it published in a scholarly journal, would it be OK to share the original form of my thesis in RG?
Master's thesis is an outcome of time bound work. In my opinion it is better to publish it first and then you can post in RG. If you submit the thesis to a good publisher it will definitely be reviewed in a nice way and if you fulfill the reviewers' comments the quality of the thesis will definitely improve.
Thank you for your suggestion. To make it clear, the publication process of the article was over, but I could not decide on whether to put its original version here.
agree with Subir Bandyopadhyay. You should read the terms and conditions and copyright agreement of your journals. We must be very careful about this issue. It is considered one type of piracy.
Generally the copyright of the article is hold after taking scan PDF of one agreement having your signature at several places.
Dr. Bandyopadhyay correctly advised you in this respect.
But all journals do not hold copyright. If you did not signed any such contact, you may upload it. If your article contain many other subjects, you can upload the whole thesis after getting permission of the University. But what conditions were signed? You may take advice of a lawyer showing him all documents.
I think most of the answers fail to deal with what you ask about. Your master thesis is your own, and unless your university have stated other, you may well put it here on ResearchGate. I think it is a good idea since an article made the way you have done, often is a very shortened version of the master thesis where details have been omitted.
That is okay. But if you intend progressing with further research in the same area in future, it would be advisable not to share it. You may just find some grey areas to still work with in future, from the thesis. So, once you publish papers from it, you can decide not to share the full project. Besides, publishing the full work only makes it possible for some "lazy" students to copy and paste your work as their undergraduate project works.
Research papers are children born from some theses, what is wrong if the mother is shown to the public for deeper appreciation of the research? Best regards
One can do so generously with a helping attitude but should not cry plagiarism, plagiarism, if someone makes advanced propositions based on half cooked data.
It depends on the Intellectual Property (IP) regulation of your university and the journal your publishing your thesis in it but generally speaking as the author you should be able to get the permission easily (if required).
