There are two alternatives in my opinion:

If you have cells in suspension or already detatched from the culture fIask, I think you may simply put fixed cells on a microscope slide, air dry it and then proceed to staining, similarly as is done for giemsa stain of chromosome banding.

If you want perform the experiment on cultured cells, the best solution may be grow them on chamber slides, fix with methanol or paraformaldheyde, and then perform staining.

As mentioned above, for cell cultures you would want to grow them on chamber slides. For staining, you wouldn't use an H&E technique, which is designed for tissue sections, but rather an equivalent that is more appropriate for cells, such as May-grunwald-giemsa, or Wright's. There are commercially available kits (eg Diff-quick) which will be easy and work fine.

As G. La Rocca and J-M Lapointe said, MGG or only Giemsa staining is more appropriate than HE for your experiment...

Easy and not to much expensive.

Now, I am working on epithelial cells and using chamber slide is a good idea and is possible for my experiment .

I did a quick search on MGG, Wright's and Giemsa. As I understand the first two (and also Diff-quick) are specifically for staining blood cells. Correct? Though, I found Giemsa staining can be used on other cells for example on epithelial.

Also do you know of a good kit?

MGG and Wright's are not specifically for blood cells - it's just that blood cell preparation are what are most often stained on slides. They are good for any cells.

Personally I would recommend you to do more than just a simple Giemsa, which tends to be somewhat monochromatic, It would be best to do at least a combined Wright-Giemsa (or MGG), which will give you more color differentiation of cell structures.

I am using  MAY GRÜNWALD - GIEMSA stain for staining isolated bone marrow cells for detection of micronuclei formation as marker for DNA damage. Apoptosis ( programmed cell death) a genetically directed process of cell self-destruction that is marked by the fragmentation of nuclear DNA, is activated either by the presence of a stimulus or removal of a suppressing agent or stimulus, and is a normal physiological process eliminating DNA-damaged, superfluous, or unwanted cells as a result of DNA damage -repair system inbalance. Wihle necrosis is localized death of living tissue, that mean no DNA damage involve in this cases. So you can use MGG stain to diffrentiate between apoptotic / necrotic cells by looking at DNA fragments.

cell shrinkage with nuclear chromatin condensation and increased cytoplasmic esinophilia. Some cells show apoptotic bodies with membrane bounded cytoplasmic fragments with or without pyknotic nuclear fragments.

YES YOU CAN STAIN CELLS WITH H&E According to elkablawy method 2001 .. very simply by growing them on cover slips and fix them with Alcohol. Then use the ordinary H&E staining method but just by few dipping of cover slip in the different jars of the staining chemicals.. finally mounting and reverse coverslipping on microscopic slide.

IT TAKE LESS THAN 2 MINUTES.

yes you can use H&E stain for cell line . its good for checking morphology of cells, you can see more details about cells conditions. but if you want to check only apoptosis, giemsa, or Wright's .. are fast and good options.
