There are a lot of genetic abnormalities like - Haemophilia, thalassemia etc. which can not be totally cured as far as my knowledge is concerned. I want to ask my friends and followers about any recent invention regarding complete curing of these diseases.
You are right that there are some genetic diseases that cannot be cured at the moment but I think that medical & allied researches will soon find proper treatments for them. All what is needed is more support for such researches (i.e. reduction of spending on weapons & increase of spending on R&D aiming at human health improvement) plus more activity by the scientists.

Several diseases can be genetically transmitted and run in the families (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_disorder). Fortunately for many of them there are excellent treatments so that individuals can lead a happy and healthy life for a long time. Congenital heart diseases are surgically treated at an early age and the persons lead a normal life. Asthma, diabetes, hypertension etc. run in the families. Indians are particularly genetically vulnerable to diabetes and hypertension. Thanks to medical science advances the patients are now leading near normal lives.
Some diseases possibly have no cure or even a treatment at present. Such diseases exist outside the genetic gambit also. Let us hope in future cures will be discovered even for such dreadful diseases.

The suggestion of Dr. Nizar Matar is appropriate and timely. I totally agree with him that the need for increased funding in research is an urgent necessity. The race for superiority in mass destructive arsenal is going beyond control. This energy should be diverted for human good. I am sure future younger generations will rise to the occasion and will make our planet a true global healthy and happy village.

Modifying DNA to treat hereditary diseases has begun. A few days ago I heard a news report about Britain have passed a law that three parents have a baby. I cannot remember the disease’s name. It is about two parents have the hereditary diseases. They can use another health person’s DNA for modifying. So the baby has three parents’ gene.

Recombinant DNA technology has widely applied to plant. Genetically engineered foods are common now. Following recognizing the relationships between human’s genomes and diseases. Genetic engineering before embryogenesis forming will be good way for hereditary diseases. But we will face a lot of problem about ethics and misuse.
