And also, do humans have a Restriction-Modification system?
Only one study around 1978 showed the presence of HsaI restriction enzyme in human which has similarity to EcoRI. Till now there isn't an evidence of existence of the restriction enzymes in us? And are they also having modification system?
The enzymes which cut the transposons, behave like restriction enzymes. And since transposons are close relatives of viruses, this theory gets more corroborated.
There are site specific endonucleases in some eukaryotic systems, however these are not the same as a restriction-modificaiton systems other than the site specific cleavage. I don't believe there are any true R-M systems in eukaryotes.
Eukaryotes do not have R-M systems. They have site specific endonucleases, but they do not have MTases recognizing the same sequence to methylate. There are MTases whose function is regulation in eukaryotes. But in prokaryotes, MTases protect host genome from restriction enzyme digestion. Therefore, one can say no R-M systems in eukaryotes.
In some fungi the R-M is being shown as base modification of its own and restricting others, in the process of enzyme activity.
