I was wondering if I could dehydrate my DAB stained tissue section and keep it for counterstaining the next day. Due to time constraint, I don't think I would be able to finish the whole procedure of staining the same day. Therefore, I am looking if there is a way for doing this.

why do you want to dry them?
You can possibly leave them over night in washing buffer or water if you want to counterstain them the next day (I suppose you mean a classical staining like Nissl or H&E).

I will be doing H&E. So, you mean it is not required to do dehydration?
No, it isn't.
Moreover, when doing H&E you need to rinse you slides again in water, so you can just leave in water over night!

Yes after DAB staining, the sample is washed with distilled water to stop the reaction and can keep samples for over night or even two or three days and then counter staining with only Hematoxylin or methylene blue. If you want to stain Eosin also, you can do but I think no need to stain eosin, counter stain only hematoxylin is ok.
