CKD by definition is an irreversible renal disease . If improvement occurs , it is due to associated Acute Kidney Injury ( AKI ) . It is always essential to rule out AKI on CKD , as correction of reversible factors can improve renal function .
It´s a task of a nephrologist, in a patient with a creatinine level >11 mg%, to exclude an acute deterioration of chronic renal insufficiency and treat reversible factors, such as hypovolemia, too low drinking volume, iron deficient anemia, drug-toxic effects, urinary obstruction etc, before regular dialysis treatment is initiated.
