Does anyone know if the CDP model in Abaqus using Mander's confined model for reinforced concrete can capture and show the crack due to gravity? I have tried this in my model, including two columns and a cantilever slab (2m). However, the general static using the CDP model does not show any crack due to gravity load. Any idea is appreciated.
As far as I know, the CDP model characterizes the deterioration of modulus of elasticity using the damage parameter and plastic strain. It doesn't give results based on the nonlinear fracture mechanics; i.e., crack width cannot be determined. So if you are willing to see cracks, I think you should use XFEM or other software such as ADINA.
Supposing you input the CDP parameters in Abaqus properly, it seems that the gravity load you implemented your model does not yield plasticity in your analysis which means that the model response to gravity load ranges in elastic limit of the concrete material.
