I am out of a lab in Wisconsin and recently came across this paper:

Article Preparation of Acute Brain Slices Using an Optimized N-Methy...

Our lab uses chilled sucrose-aCSF during slicing, but I'm wondering if the grass is truly greener. Can anyone attest to which slice prep protocol is better?

And when you tried the NMDG aCSF during slice prep, did you use the sodium spike in solution, as described in the paper above?

Hoping to find answers from people who have tried both. There are many papers which use one or the other, but there isn't a lot of online discussion on which they prefer. Thank you to everyone who responds!
