The anti-aging gene Sirtuin 1 is associated with the reversal of cell senescence and apoptosis with relevance to many organs and tissues. Sirtuin 1 repression is linked to the global chronic disease epidemic that include cardiovascular disease, diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases. Sirtuin 1 activators and Sirtuin 1 inhibitors have been identified for use in dietary and pharmacological interventions. The role of STATINS as a Sirtuin 1 activator versus inhibitor has attracted interest for STATIN use in the global chronic disease epidemic.
