I am training on a scanning electron microscope and would like to take some interesting pictures to show to school children (and also for my own collection). What, in your opinion, are the most interesting things to look at? Insects, materials, anything else?
glutaraldehyde stained/fixed bacteria also very nice to see under SEM
Pollen... otherwise, I agree with Denis. Insects have outher shell and perform nicely under vacuum. Segmented eyes!
Of course Denis Korneev has right, but wings (if exist) are interesting too, especially mosqito's :)
From the other hand, all minerals looks interesting and may show what SEM may show and what AFM can't. For training you can try to observe natural fibres (grass) and wood. It gives information about higher magnification which will not burn samples.
It's very personal. Some like insect or part of a plant and some like nanomaterial. I think you should try to look the most interest object you like.
