I want to cite using the style "author et al., year" for a paper using a referencing software, mendeley. The particular journal's referencing style doe not seem to be available. Can anyone suggest an alternative.
Could you clarify your question? Are you looking for a journal that accepts a particular citation format or are you looking for what citation format a particular journal uses?
Most journals specify their preferred style on a "for authors" or "about submissions" page. If this is not available you could always contact the editor. The citation example you give could actually be a number of different styles - most begin with author and year but differ in how titles and publications are formatted. I believe Mendeley handles all of the major ones - APA, MLA, and Chicago - so you have the ability to change your format to meet the particular style of the journal to which you wish to submit. As a general rule, scientific journals, social science, psychology, sometimes medical, etc. use APA and literary journals and the humanities use MLA. Some medical journals use AMA. I don't know who uses Chicago.
