Normally under Hydroponics, roots will not be longer as obvious, because, when there is no dearth of nutrients and water, why do roots has to waste its energy in making longer root However, under field condition, it needs to extract the nutrients and hence it may have extended roots. Exactly I am not sure about your purpose. However, if you are studying any stress like drought or nutrient then it may not give the true picture as in field condition. If you wish to go for root studies, the methodology from IRRI has been enclosed.
However I am enclosing few reprints for your reference, which may be useful to go for rice cultivation under controlled conditions
Thank you very much Dr Surendran. I am going to start my experiments on heavy metal accumulation in rice under hydroponic culture. The experiment will be conducted for both seedling and seed (grain) purpose. I understand what you told. About this study, if you have any suggestions or guidance, please share with me.
U r most welcome. Feel free to contact me. Long time back we have worked for screening paddy varieties for Fe and Zn acquisition. My mail id is [email protected].
