I am looking for studies showing differences (or lack of them) in personality (e.g. NEO-FFI, self-control, emotionality etc.) and temperamental traits between adult partners (also parents and partners without children) living in various types of families (nucelar, single-parent, cohabitation, adoptive, foster families).
I am interested if there are some differences between them in this rather constitutive traits and what implications for thinking about various types of family it could bring to us.

I suspect the family "types" that are relevant are not based on family composition but on aspects of family structure. There are many versions of family psychology, each of which might provide an angle on thinking through what the connections might be. But I would recommend, if you can locate a copy, David Kantor and William Lehr, Inside the Family: Toward a Theory of Family Process (Jossey-Bass, 1975; Harper Colophon Books, 1976). In addition to what other RG researchers have already said, I would suggest three prominent figures who wrote cogently on parental (family?) styles and their influence on the development and education of children: D. Baumrind, M. Hoffman, and A. Sameroff. For instance M. Hoffman [see Hofmann, M (1970). Moral development. In P. Mussen (Ed.), Carmichael's manual of child psychology (vol. 2, pp. 261-360). New York: Wiley] formalized three parental types: Power assertion (e.g., "If you steal from another, I will beat you"), withdrawal of love (e.g., "If you do that I don't like you anymore), and inductive practices (e.g., "You should not steal from another because by so doing you are taking what belongs to others and they are deprived from what belongs to them"). Hoffman found that power assertion and withdrawal of love, for instance, hinder the child's moral development, whereas inductive strategies or practices foster it. Baumrind and Sameroff also conceptualized different types of parents and elaborated on their influence on children. Sameroff (I don't remember where), for instance, also elaborated on parents' beliefs about their children and spoke of non-reflective parents ("My child, Maria, does not perform well at school, and I don't want to know why this is so"); categorical parents ("Maria does not perform well at school because she is lazy"); relational or compensatory parents (" Maria does not perform well at school because she only studies a bit and I have not time enough to encourage her to study a bit more"); and perspectivistic parents ("Louis does not invest much in Math, because he has an artistic temperament, So, although he performs poorly in Math, he excels in artistic matters, such as playing guitar and piano, and I accept quite well that Louis prefers to be a musician rather than a mathematician ").
