Can anyone recommend a good tool to gauge the degree of interpersonal interaction between an interviewer and a respondent? I am interested in both affective and effectiveness measures. Many thanks.
Why don't you create simulation scenarios in which participants have to react/assume a role/ etc? They're highly interactive and you can get fruitful insights on many aspects, affective, behavioral, and so on.
As an example of what I do, here's a paper on scenarios design, though you can get more ideas from www.iconsproject.com
Conference Paper Scenario Design in EFL Teacher Training
Thanks for the quick response, we have the scenario and interaction planned, what we need is a way to evaluate how the subject responded to one of two different interactions.
It may be worthwhile looking at Eric Berne’s work on transactional analysis, also, T A Today, Ian Stewart and Vann Joines.
The Parent, Adult, Child ego states that can provide a model to analyse interactions and how one transaction affects others. There are sub states that further develop the transactional analysis.
Krathwohl’s Affective Domain could also assist. It provides a hierarchy of attitudinal behaviours that can be used in measuring interactions.
Affective
attitude
1. Receive (awareness)
2. Respond (react)
3. Value (understand and act)
4. Organise personal value system
5. Internalize value system (adopt behaviour)
I use both of these models when I am teaching affective behaviour.
