I currently use both Big5 Lacies and DroboPros for tens of Terabytes of storage for genome and gene expression datasets. I am not a happy camper. Lacie makes NAS (network attached storage) obsolete about every three years and Drobo appears to be following the same practice. DroboPros I purchased 2 years ago are being given only one year service agreements. Big5 Lacies before a certain date do not work with Mountain Lion. 4 Tb hard drives are being manufactured (and are available at Best Buy and Amazon) so, it is not clear to me why a NAS or USB based RAID storage solution that is inexpensive and doesn't have short life expectancy hasn't arrived. What are other people using? I have about 25 Tb right now and I expect to need 50 - 75 Tb by the end of 2013.
