Maybe it depends on the data material how correct transcripts you need? In my experiences there is a true point in making the transcripti yourself. You get a very good grip of the content and a sense of what is going on in the material when listening and transcribing what you have recorded. Half the analysis is already "done" when the transcript is made.
Well, what I did when I conducted my focus groups - I used two recorders - my SONY went perfectly well, but the other failed from the first focus group! --- in addition, and as the literature advises - you need to have your own diary of what took place - which I did immediately after each of the focus groups - just putting down what I have noticed - then when I did the transcribing myself - then commenced including this info in the Nvivo - yes, it was a long process but I felt this is the best way to do it...
