Can anyone recommend a cheap way of making a waterbath for the bottom of our cell culture incubator which appears to have 'lost' its current one? I was thinking a stainless steel baking tray but any other thoughts are welcome...
It is better not to use a plastic containers as they can contain bisphenol-A, DEHP (if it is PVC), dioxins, perfluorochemicals, phthalates and/or benzene, which can be carcinogenic/toxic or just be metabolic disruptors and in very high humidity of the CO2 incubator at quite high temperature for most of the cheaper plastics there is a possibility that they can reach Your cells.
It would be much better to use a glass tray. Usually in a lab one can find some old glass containers or maybe You can go to the glazer and get one made (it is quite cheap) or even You can use the glass knife to shorten and old aquarium.
So, stainless steel or glass, no plastic. With the cell culture it is better to be paranoid than sorry.
