According to literature there are so many chemicals like H2SO4, NaHCO3, HClO4,KMnO4 Saturated KCl and NaCO3 that can be use to activate the surface and even some author claimed that we can also introduce COOH on the carbon surface by using NaOH. Can any body share his/her experience regarding this?
hi i have an experience about your quesstion.
I wanted to form COOH groups on graphite eectrode and glassy carbon, pencil graphite is softer than GCE. therefore it can be activated by using just H2SO4 1M 10 cycles CV -1,2 to +1,2 V. GCE is much complicated so you have to use perfmanganic acid solution I mean that you should use HMnO4 by mixin KMnO4 and H2SO4 you can find its proper mix ratios. I can hardly remember that I soaked my GCE in permanganic acid solution for 1 hour than i treated it with in H2SO4 solution 10 cycles -1,2 to +1,2 V. I hope it is useful for you
