I´m culturing MCF 7, and we noticed something different in the flask. Please check the photograph, I can't describe that thing. We started to think in a parasite.
Hi Mariángeles! I know this is a year later, but we seem to have the same type of contamination in our MCF-7's (as well as T47D and ZR-75-1, all breast cancer cell lines). See attached picture of contaminated ZR-75-1's. It looks like yours! Did you ever figure out what it is? And how did you decontaminate your tissue culture area?
If you are referring to the clear circular object, it looks like cellular debris or just a messed up cell. Is it attached to the plate? You can always wash it out. It is unlikely to be a parasite in cell culture. I have seen similar structures in all sorts of different cell lines.
This is certainly not a parasitic contamination. The round structures frequently appear in the cell culture as debris or sometimes the floating air bubble. It usually goes away upon washing.
Re-check the Media pH, CO2 supply as well as possibilities of Yeast/ Candida is very common in MCF7 or such common cell lines ! I would re-start with a fresh frozen stock or from another lab near-by as well.

We have in our lab contamination on MCF7 cells like the contamination that you show in the first photo. We need help if you have any information about the source of contamination or how we can remove this contamination?
Patrick Aouad It can't be, as we are observing it in almost all cell lines we culture in our lab for a few weeks now. Why should say stem cells in our case even want to evade each other?
