Experiment was conducted to study the effect of particle size, N factor and soil moisture on degradation of wheat straw treated with herbicide
Main treatments:
1.Control (No herbicide), 2.Recommended dose of herbicide and, 3. Double the recommended dose of herbicide.
Sub treatments:
1.Particle size (Two levels: 10 mm and 20 mm)
2. N factor (Two levels: Recommended and half dose)
3. Soil moisture (Two levels: 50 and 100 field capacity)
which design will be most suited for data analysis. Can i go for split-split plot design or factorial design?
That depends on the design of the experiment. When you say 'main treatment' do you mean you had experimental plots that were assigned to one of the 3 herbicide treatments, within which there were subplots that were assigned to various combinations of the 'Sub-treatment' factors? If so that's a split-plot design.
If on the other had you had a bunch of plots and each of them was randomly assigned to a combination of the 4 factors you list, then you have a factorial design.

Thanks for your suggestion, i forget to mention that, the above experiment is lab experiment with minimum 100g soil and wheat straw
If you want to do some qualitative assessment, you will opt for factor analysis.
The answer is the same. Just substitute whatever container you performed the experiment in. If you had small containers that were each randomly assigned to a combination of the 4 factors you list, then you have a factorial design. If you had a larger tub that was assigned one of the main treatments within which there was replicates assigned to a combination of the three other factors, then it's split-plot.
If you using factor analysis, there will have more than 2 factrs.
