Dear all, I have a very basic problem regarding how abaqus calculate reaction forces of nodes with displacement boundary conditions. I am analysing a vertical anchor plate buried in sand. The anchor is given a 0.01 displacement. Reaction forces I get after geostatic step and load step are as below. But reaction forces of corner nodes are lower than middle nodes. Why is this? Geostatic stresses in soil are correct. Also during the analysis the direction of RF1 in left edge change directions. I am expecting a triangular RF distribution as theory suggests. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance

I think the reason that reaction force is lower at the plate corners is the flexibility of the plate. You can try and increase the bending stiffness of the plate and see if the reaction forces at the corners increase.
If you want to take systems solution approach, see some of my papers on my RG page, you have to first break up the solid soil into weakly bound molecules by blasting then calculate the force of displacement of your plate and then add the average blasting force to it. Of course you answers will depend on how much crystalline bonding there is, how accurately you are measuring your steps etc..Because you do not know the soil composition you have to calculate it in this algorithmic way as was done by Honble.'
