There is also a discussion about a theoretical multiplicity in sociology. If it is a curse or a blessing depends on the view, but actually sociologists have a huge theoretical variance in views on social reality and this leads to very different descriptions and problematizations. The problem sometimes is, that everything stands next to each other and one has to decide on the blind spots and the relevance of the description.
Multiplicity problem is the true essence of what Popper defines as the "Third World". Under such perspectivization, scientists tend to conceive the realities of the world differently. As a consequence, one often observes a plethora of various theories addressing the same phenomenon. The abundance of competing theories has resulted in the creation of the so called jungle of theories where the keen observers cannot see the woods for the trees.Such multiplicity of perspectives is the natural by product of the subjectivity characterizing the process of theory building. On this basis, one of the basic goals of doing research is to substantiate whether the existing theories and generalizations are valid or not.
