I feel and even know that emotional intelligence and academic achievements are deeply rateled. Academic achievements grealtly depend on one's emotional intelligence. As I see it, emotional intelligence is a motivator for students' successful achievement. If the student is not motivated s/he does not engage with what s/he wants to learn. Piaget once noticed that emotions are, say, the energizer of any behavior. However, the relation between one's emotions and intelligence is, say, a reciprocal relationship. Emotions are the energizer of any bebavior, but emotions are also, say, cognitively structured. For example, one can show empathy to others in order to get some favor of them. This form of empathy is a low form of empathy. But we can show emphaty to others, not because of egocentric reasons, but because of others-oriented reasons. When this is the case we are really being empathic to others. Antonio Damasio and Daniel Goldman are two "musts" for one to understand the deep relations between emotions or emotional intelligence and intelligence or intellectual achievements.
Emotional intelligence skills are vital to human performance in successful learning. It is generally believe that high performing students will also exhibit more proficiency at these 'soft skills' than students with more modest academic success. They don't get angry in stressful situations. Instead, they have the ability to look at a problem and calmly find a solution. They're excellent decision makers, and they know when to trust their intuition. Regardless of their strengths, however, they're usually willing to look at themselves honestly. They take criticism well, and they know when to use it to improve their performance. People like this have a high degree of emotional intelligence. They know themselves very well, and they're also able to sense the emotional needs of others. from mindtools with little modification
Academic achievements or hard skills or (IQ) help us get a job and emotional intelligence ( EQ) or soft skills help us keep the job. EQ help us mainly in the communication skills while doing our duty.
Do you feel Emotional intelligence and academic achievements is related?
I'm hypothesizing Emotional Intelligence (EI) can be positively related to academic achievements. Reason being EI that enable the awareness & capability to control oneself prompt the person to be patience, persevere, listen & analyze the entire discussion / argument before making any prudent decision / action.
Your phrase "Perfect academic systems shall lead emotionally intelligent students to miracles. Bad academic systems shall destroy all intelligence at students, not only emotional !" sounds very categorical. Now it is generally accepted that we live in an era of total degradation of education. But why are technologies developing furiously, but the level of education has plummeted all over the world, what is the paradox in? What prevents to develop "Perfect academic systems" in order to "lead emotionally intelligent students to miracles"? In my understanding, the system of education in the form of universities has exhausted itself, new forms are needed, e.g. as Self-education by using Special Technologies. Why should someone bear responsibility for the education of young people? I believe that first and foremost young people themselves should be responsible to themselves and understand well that only their personal hard work on extracting knowledge can lead them to miracles.
