Can anyone explain the difference between Bile Esculin Agar and Esculin Iron Agar used in Esculin Hydrolysis Test?

The composition of both the Chemicals is almost same except for the presence of Ferric Citrate in the former and Ferric ammonium citrate in the latter.

I was able to find that Ferric citrate provides iron in less toxic form than other free iron salts but was not able to find any detail on either how such mechanism is possible.
