Historically, virtual reality has emerged before augmented reality. This is why it is relevant to be interested in this technology as well and to become aware of their common points to allow a unified use. This pooling requires, among other things, modeling data and knowledge and working on interoperability issues for information systems. It will be necessary to go through the development of an ontology to allow unified exploitation of the data and knowledge needed to make augmented and virtual reality. This approach is experimented to generate virtual and augmented environments for operator training on the one hand and for operational assistance on the other hand.

The complete guide to virtual reality – everything you need to get ...
Within my organization we use the term extended reality (XR) to describe our VR/AR/MR solutions (with MR solutions aggregating external sensor input which includes IoT and biometric). That said, the various use cases or needs that we are addressing with our XR solutions are:
- Employee/Healthcare Professional Training
- New Employee Onboarding
- Device/Product Assembly (within manufacturing)
- Sustainability/Support/Responsiveness (telepresence) from IT and Engineering
- Product Design (prior to using additive manufacturing methods [i.e., 3D])
- Lean Line Layout (versus six sigma cardboard city)
- Virtual meetings (w/fully interactive avitars)
- Surgical Room Layout
- Healthcare Professional XR peer interaction (telementoring)
Note: Some XR solutions include methods for assisting cognitively disabled individuals with interaction in normal environments.
The list is much longer, where we have identified at least 85 different use cases and have numerous patents filed and trade secrets issued within the XR space.
Hope that helps, but if you need more, I will share what I can.
