Leather industry are the key contributors to the economy of developing nations, however, unfortunately are the major polluters because of its toxic nature of wastewater. Physical and chemical treatment processes, which are used for the treatment of wastewater are not environmental friendly. Therefore, the biological treatment processes should be applied for the treatment of leather industry wastewater.

A pretreatment is needed for metals removal and pH adjustment. Then you can apply biological treatment. Extended aeration with very high SRT is proposed for high strength organic load wastewaters.
