Is it appropriate to have Person A as an Associate Editor of a submitted manuscript - where 1/4 of the total references are his/her own and who has been a co-author with the corresponding author of the manuscript (Person B) on many published articles? Among the Person A's and Person B's coauthored published articles, 8 were also cited in the submitted manuscript - where the total reference was 36. Even though Person A and Person B do not belong to the same institution, is it still appropriate? What to consider?
In our journal assistant editor can't be in charge of a submitted manuscript at all, especially if this person is also one of the authors.
The answer probably depends on how small the field the journal covers is, some are so narrowly focussed that there may be no choice.
Hi Hada, I guess Persona A should excuses from editing, and reviewers mus be as independent and foreingn specialists as possible
