I have not induced successfully hairy root by using Agrobacterium rhizogenes in monocotyledons. I wonder that whether plant can be influenced on secondary metabolism by unsuccessful tranformation and what factors of bacterium can work as elicitor role (for instances, Vir proteins)?

Please see this article from N.C. State University (US). Look like (1) it readily infects more dicots than monocots, and (2) plant *phenolic compounds* make R. rhizogenes easier to infect.
💠💠"Infectious hairy root disease is caused by Rhizobium rhizogenes and it occurs on many dicotyledonous plants.
💠💠The plant families Solanaceae, Rosaceae, Fabaceae, Crassulaceae, Caesalpinaceae, Brassicaceae, Polygonaceae, and Asteraceae are susceptible to hairy root caused by R. rhizogenes. Laboratory experiments have shown that many plants can serve as hosts including monocots and primitive dicots (6).
💠💠Hosts which are phenol accumulators tend to be more sensitive to infection by R. rhizogenes (1). R. rhizogenes has a world-wide distribution but it cannot grow above 30°C in culture.
