Climate changes are hitting us in a noticeable rate. The impacts are very strong on all life aspects specially agriculture. Decision makers, researchers and many others are working hard to mitigate those changes. However, we still notice that climate changes are speeding ahead of us and will continue so for some time.
So, Do you think that development in agricultural sciences and other related fields can cope with those climate changes?
Why did the approach entitled climate-resilient agriculture echo, for the simple reason , we utterly failed to marry the developments in agricultural practices with emmission of green house gases or in other words, menacing climate chnage . And this change is much biggger than any orther change or in any other form . We need developments in agriculture that undertake teh safety of ecosystem , be it soil itself..??
I think relatively,agricultural practices may reduce from the effect of climatic changes.Using new plant cultivars to meet climatic changes.Developing and using suitable irrigation system will reduce from the effect of the change .Machinery development for all kinds are needed to reduce the effect.Seed technology is important for this function.Building of water dams are useful .........etc.

From what I can observe, at the rate the climate changes, agriculture cannot cope anymore with it in our country (Switzerland). In fact there are talk (from some politicians) to introduce a special insurance to cover the losses in yield of crops. What we urgently need are drought resistant cultivars and/or change the kind of plants we are growing. Another problem is the pressure of using less chemical pesticides when the number of insects and fungal diseases are on the increase. Time is running short and actions need to be taken.
Climate change is undoubtedly outpacing current scientific strides in search of sustainable production approaches. A promising path for sustainable agriculture may be conservation/climate smart agriculture or agroecology. These approaches to agriculture both entail system-wide transformation of how we act upon nature in agroecosystems by promoting: nutrient recycling, water and energy use efficiency on the farm, ensuring biodiversity (agroforestry, livestock integration), reliance on natural ecosystem synergies for pest control, using locally available materials such as manure and compost for improving soil fertility instead of fossil-fuel based inputs (e.g chemical fertilizers, pesticides). The changes we need to catch up with climate change would have to be gradual and must involve painful but bold choices to move production away from what is currently pushes by global capitalist food industry giants. Changes in the agricultural sector must also synchronize with changes in other sectors such as manufacturing and extractive sectors in order to set sustainable standards for emissions and natural resource utilization and conservation. This way, a sustainable ecological balance is possible.
Yes, indeed, we need more development in agricultural sciences and practices that cope with the impact of climate change. For instance, Conservation Agriculture (CA) is considered as one of the adapted measure against climate change effect. The development and use of more drought and heat tolerant plant varieties by means of accelerating plant breeding is a right choice.
Indeed climate changes are ahead of agricultural developments and if it continued in such rate, agriculture will face a serious dangerous in the future. we need to focus more on plant breeding and using the tools of biotechnology to further improve plant tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses. however, whatever agricultural scientists will do for agriculture, it will not be as effective as that of decision makers about reducing environmental pollution to slow down climate changes.
The real question is. Can the Earth cope withthe present industrial agricultural expansion? In this context the slow global warming may just be a minor problem..
agri practices need to be updated with closer harvest to recipients practice using biological controls vs chemical application for growth and control for maximum benefit and reduced leaching into the local water tables is also a good direction to go
Yes all type of plants absorb co2 from atmosphere so it is possible to reduce global warming
In Denmark we are down to 5% natural environment (mainly beaches and cliffs) the rest is agriculture, silviculture, horticulture and "managed nature". So our highly industrialized agriculture, is highly dependent on pesticides, herbicides, fungicides etc., and only employing 2% of the population (the rest 5% is capital intensive agricultural related industry). Meanwhile so called organic agriculture, with low productivity, minimal respect for biodiversity and a large need for land, has also become part of industry, du to an excellent mark-up in pricing.
Where do we go from here? Is global warming still the main problem??

No need for drones. Farm animals are kept inside farms under a roof and mainly behind locked doors, no land left for rangeland or heards, and no incentive for mixed breeds; fodder is mainly imported. Animals are just part of a factory, while products: Meat, milk etc. are processed mainly for export.

ASF etc, is the main reason why farm animals in Denmark are bot allowed outside their pens, and or only excess land are in so called protected areas. I fear this is what the rest of the world is coming to - through tecnological efficiency.
With short-term profits, risks are not important. Farmers no longer own their farms, as such have been taken over by banks and outside investors, neither of whom are known to worry about long-term trends..

The development of agriculture in the 21st century must be based on mitigation, adaptation and resilience strategies. Technical progress in biotechnology, precision agriculture, and agricultural education can transform production units to cope with climate change. However, the dynamics of world development require to reclassify consumer's preferences to consider the ecological value of food and non-food agricultural products.
The problem is the technological and socio-economic asymmetry of countries. It is expected that developing and poor countries will have fewer capacities to change the modes of production into sustainable efficient units.
There is a need to increase the awareness about climate change issues and its significance among farmers individually. This will enhance their adaptation ability and increase their consiousness on how to practice farming with little to no impacts on the environment.
It’s the Global food trade and dependency on foodstuffs produced on the other side of the world which also influences farmers practices as they also need a minimum viable product that will cover costs for them as well
since they are competing against the labor market for the other producer,
when farmers are paid in a curve based on regional production (such as in poultry) they have a limited amount of time and making more sound environmental choices is not something that will be pursued no matter the persuasion.
