I am not an entomologist but I have knew that some colleagues are trying to use remote sensing to determine the infection of some major pests such as red palm weevils.

My question is: Is it possible and effective?

the infection of some major pests don't show its symptom until it is too late because the harmful phase of the inset is already inside the tree for quite some time and the damage has already been done before it visible to the eyes.

So how come it will be effective to sense such infection?

If it depends on visual analysis of the plant (reduction in chlorophyll content) this can be caused by many other stress factors.

Please share your thoughts and experience.
