Can activated carbon or another adsorbent material such as Activated Alumina,or Zeolite could be used in the adsorption of hydrocarbons during the treatment of oily waters arising from petroleum industries?
Its depend on type of oil free oil or emulsified and and tell us the quantity in ppm,if in low quantity can be used for Adsorption but with steam regeneration
Thank you Mohamed hassan for industrial regeneration method at high temperatures In the absence of oxygen. However this process costs high Compared with the price of what we want to purify.
Also i thank Rajeev Gupta , but the regeneration with steam (at high temperature) Risk of igniting carbon or risk of producing the reaction (C+H2O= CO+H2) which is possible in organic industrial process.
What is meant hydrocarbon sludge. If so it seems the use of activated carbon adsorption can be hard to do, because the sludge usually forming clumps that are difficult to penetrate the pores of activated carbon. Activated carbon has a negative kekutupan properties while hydrocarbons to form positive and negative poles in the preparation of sludge, so it will be difficult activated carbon to perform its function as an agent penjerap
