Though Spinal and cerebral Ischemia in relation to Depression are complex topics, is there a finite point at which Hippocampal volume reduction can be reversed? Glucocortoids etc eventually result in neural atrophy and a reduction in Hippocampal volume. Is it therefore possible that at a certain point Depression triggered by ischemia (ie., Major Depression, Ischemic Depression) is irreversible due to a hippocampal volume reduction of more than 19%? Though treatments such as Estradiol can be effective and neurogenesis within the hippocampus can be stimulated, can they return hippocampal volume and function to a normative level.
