Dear Respected RG Experts

What is the correct term for heat treatment given to powder crystalline nanoparticles (oxides)? There is no phase change before and after heating, neither for removal for unwanted product nor removal of internal stress or defects, but for studying characteristic properties changes with the variation of temperature on which heat treatment is given. These terminologies are sometimes found to be used alternatively in similar cases. So, which one is proper- calcination or annealing?

Please justify!!!!

Your kind views and suggestions are most welcome.

With best regards
