I have a Q. I am performing advanced oxidation technology experiments in which acidic Oxone (peroxymonosulphate)/PMS as an oxidant is used is used along with catalysts. During degradation of phenol, some orgaic acids are produced. i want to use borate buffer to maintain the pH but can not control even by using borate buffer. the following method is used. phenol stock solution is 1g/L,so for 20 ppm it needs 4ml in 200 ml V. For 20mM Boric acid, 1.23 g/L, while for 20mM borate , 7.26 g/L sodium tetraborate were dissolved in separate beakers. For PMS experiemnts, boric acid solution was taken along with 0.24 g PMS and check its pH was 3. Then slowly sodium tetraboarte was added until the pH is 7 or whatever 8. then 4 mL phenol was added. then the final V was adjusted to 200 ml. during the reaction the solution ph drops slowly. how to solve this issue? either buffer preparation is incorrect or other reason?
