We want to see if our mice lines have any difference in blood biochemistry and/or haematology.

We were planning on taking blood from anaesthetised mice via the cardiac puncture method prior to euthanization. However, with difficulties with getting the right anaesthetic equipment in the right place at the right time this is looking difficult.

Normally we just euthanize the mice by CO2 asphyxiation and perform necropsy afterwards. I was wondering if we also perform cardiac puncture and blood draw after asphyxiation, if there will be any changes in blood biochem/haematology that could change/affect/mask any real changes that we could potentially see whilst withdrawing blood when the mice are still alive.

Of course we would have internal controls (treated vs non treated) that would undergo the same procedures, but I would like to know if there are any drawbacks of collecting the blood after asphyxiation.
