Hi everyone, I am working with P7 mouse hippocampal slices, The media looks clear after 10 days now but I can see small black dots in the slices. They don't show any mobility ( as expected in bacterial infections), the slices are intact, maintain the whitish color. Any idea what the black dots might be and is there anything I can do about it?

It is hard to say without a picture. Overall it might be debris as there is a substantial cell loss within the first 2 weeks of the culture. However, if you are observing that between day 7 and 14 the black dots are rather getting more prominent/growing/multiplying and not disappearing, it is likely an infection.

Thank you so much for your input, I checked again, the black dot is intact but no growth or formation of other dots so might be the cell debris.
