We are working to get the best conditions for cold flow properties: pour and cloud points in biodiesel from palm oil, e.g., changing the alcohol chemical structure for the transesterification reaction. Can somebody help us with other simple choices to achieve this?
Normally, palm oil based biodiesel has a high value of cold and pour point due to it has a high content of hydrocarbon saturated compounds, it is average more than 50s percent of saturated compounds rather than that of unsaturated compounds. To obtain the biodiesel with low of cold and pour point values, why not trying to fractioned the biodiesel under vacuum condition for escalating the fraction of unsaturated compounds.
the properties of Biodiesel are very much related to the hydrocarbon chains rather than the alcohol in use for transesterification. the more saturated chains the higher the cold flow properties. you should think of a way to either increase the fraction of the unsaturated chains or to make more chains unsaturated. you could probably follow the technique as suggested by Azhari.
