You can try imageJ, image analysis software. It is a free software and also very much user friendly. You can also find tutorials for it.

Dear Sarah,

you could try imageJ as an open source, but if you want a more precise tool, you can try stereoinvestigator. It is a very precise and friendly way (gold standard unbiased stereology) to quantify cells.
