Hi All,
I am looking to purchase a dPCR system and am curious what people's opinions are on the best ones. We will be using it primarily to look at contaminating or pathogenic microbes in complex microbial communities. We would also want to use it to assess horizontal gene transfer from the contaminating species into endogenous bacteria. We have never used dPCR and are starting from scratch so have a lot of flexibility.

We have a BioRad, and the results are fine. However, if I was buying today I might be tempted to look at the QIAGEN QIAcuity as it looks to have better throughput and seems to have a more reliable (and therefore more accurate) reaction set up. Droplet formation needed for the BioRad is more variable than I would have liked - droplet making does get better with practice, but it is still an area of concern.
Vincent Mulholland thank you for this feedback- do you think the automated droplet producer would eliminate that variability or it would remain an issue? I appreciate you taking the time to respond!

Kathleen Arnolds do you mean for the BioRad? Yes probably, but that was over budget at the time, and I don’t know anyone with direct experience.
Vincent Mulholland yes with the BioRad. And for the higher throughput with QIAcuity do you mean more samples or the fact that you can use more probes at once? Thanks again, I really appreciate your feedback!
