Some laboratories are working on finding benzimidazole drug resistance against haemonchosis in sheep. Workers are finding b-tubulin gene mutation at p200 through gene sequencing. They are actually doing DNA sequencing on genome of adult worm in the dead animal.
Why can we not find drug resistance from the eggs of haemonchus contortus passed by live animal?

Seems to me if the adult worm is resistant, the mutation should be present in adult. If adult is resistant and lays eggs which are resistant, the nucleic acid from eggs should demonstrate same mutation? My guess is they can obtain a large amount of DNA. With current techniques (quantitative pcr) you should be able to sequence gene in eggs as well.
