I'd like to know which is better for protein extraction from E. coli: glass beads or silica zirconium beads. In my lab silica zirconium beads are used for DNA extraction from M. tuberculosis, and according to some literature the glass ones are better. This beads require a previous wash step with acid. Is there any special consideration to use zilica beads? What I want to do with the protein later is quantify protease activity with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent.
