This is my very first thread on research gate.
I have a new instrument - q-exactive orbitrap and i have experienced a high background ms noise in low m/z range. After cleaning the instrument, replacing exhaust pipe, changing the nitrogen source etc. the noise was reduced. Now its aprox. ~1*10E7 for the highest m/z peak., with ~10 ms ion injection time. I have other instruments (however other type) in this lab, not experiencing such noise issues. MS is feeded from hplc running at 300 ul min-1 h2o:meoh 80:20 containing 0.1% formic acid and 5 mM ammonium formate. I am enclosing a screen shot of the tune page. I am curious how does this looks like in other orbitrap instruments ?

I also have a QE instrument. This phenomenon I also encountered during the research process. However, the precursors I obtained were only m/z of formic or acetic acid. When there is no solvent, what will the signal be like? Because in this system there is a C-trap that will increase the signal during operation. Therefore, you should check the composition of the solvent you are using. At the same time, the transfer tube temperature you are installing in my opinion is relatively low, you can raise it to 320 celsius to see if it improves this situation!
