Are you maybe aware of a dataset containing DICOM files with MRI scans coming from a range of MRI scanners? Preferably brain scans with a range of sequences (T1, T2, FLAIR, T2*, whatever). It would be great to have some data to develop an approach to automated sequence identification based on headers, and I'm guessing they're pretty varied when it comes to header data/format with all those different vendors and firmware versions.
Or maybe there's some other way to ID the sequence type without looking at it (te voxel values)? Some docs/websites that would disclose the vendor-specific header format/info?

I think most of the info you are after is available from the standard DICOM tags. Anyway I am sure that there are a number of databases that have DICOM data from multiple manufacturers. The ABCD Data Repository (https://data-archive.nimh.nih.gov/abcd) would be a good candidate. The authors of this preprint (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/early/2018/05/02/309260) used data from that repository to identify scanners from different manufacturers just based on signal variance. That is not exactly what you are talking about, but seems related.
You can check ADNI or ABIDE..
There are lots of database available with multiple sequences for MRI.

As Allen has indicated, a the information is in the DICOM headers of the images that is common (within the allowed variations in interpretation & implementation) standard for export and transfer of MR images across all the vendors. However there is no universal naming system, so one would have to look at a combination of the imaging parameters in the header rather than just the sequence name field.
The BIDS (brain imaging datastructure) activity is working on facilitating the interchange of images between researchers http://bids.neuroimaging.io.
Part of this includes suggestions for naming structures. From the resources listed on their site they may also have some tools useful for what you are looking to do.
