If you perhaps know some people who publish in the same general field as you do, ask them which journal has the shortest lead time. Probably the most experienced people will know the answer to that question.

Dear Md, there are a number of issues that you need to balance in the publication process. Speed of publication is one of them. I have provided some tips on journal article publication strategy. For me the most important thing is to work with one good coauthor. Secondly, you can start your publication as a conference presentation or paper. You can also milk several publications out of the same idea by rewriting it for different audiences, thus reducing the need to worry about response times.

Trade publications, some with substantial readerships, are often are not concerned about the issue, 

Letters journals in your field will move more quickly ... usually.  You may wish to look at journals that have a post-publication peer review model.  Most importantly - consider moving to an employer that emphasizes quality over quantity.  I liked M. Raspor's comment about looking at submission versus publication date.  Note that one metric that has emerged is the percentage of a scholar's papers (or lab or center or department or university) that are published in top tier publications.  Your local situation will mean a lot - reach out to others in your field for advice on good journals to publish in.  One idea that you can do yourself is to pick a few role models, look up their recent publications in either Web of Science or Scopus and then analyze the search results by Source Title (Web of Science) or Source (Scopus).  That will give you a pattern to aspire to.

Various companies have database products that answer questions about journal impact factor, acceptance rates,  and time to publication, among others. See if your institution has access to PubsHub or Datavision. These tools let you search for the most appropriate combination of journals with the characteristics you need.

Before it is sent to reviewers, the paper stays with the editor, which may also take a month or two (in most journals, you can see it on the site). To accelerate the process, you need to pay special attention to your cover letter, for it is always read by the editor first. If your cover letter draws his/her attention, the paper will be read quicker. As the most unpleasant thing is waiting for "yes" or "no" (it is rather 'no" than 'yes' that worries the author), the quick 'no' reply will set you free for further submissions; in case it is 'yes', the editor will forward your paper to reviewers much sooner, and you economize the time again. In my experience, the right cover letter helped receive the reply in two hours.

From my experience, I think you can sent your publication to different publishers. This first to respond would enhance your respons time. The second paper was published that way. when i sent it initially it was corrupted, I made corrections and resent it. While I met the second editor at a workshop who eventually became a mentor, guiding me on what  publishers look out before publishing your work. By the time the paper was going to press was when the first editor was responding.

Most journals expressly prohibit sending the paper to more than one journal simultaneously. To do so will jeopardize publication in either journal. This is NOT good practice and may have negative consequences for the author, should the journals find out.

Yes, I would scrupulously avoid multiple simultaneous submissions, a practice which can seriously damage your reputation as a scientist. If you need to publish results fast for some special reason, it is better to put some effort into finding out which publication is suitable and has the shortest lead time.

This is assuming that you really do need to get a paper out rapidly because of exceptional circumstances. In general, as someone else here suggested, you would be better off working out which are the most suitable periodicals for you to submit to, and for those, which is the most prestigious journal that is likely to accept your paper.

@Allahmagani: In as much as I love fast response too, I do not support sending same  work to different publishers.

I have to agree with most previous postings. Most (if not all) journals specifically forbid multiple submissions and ask you to state that your paper is not under consideration by another journal. You would be totally discredited as a scientist if you do not comply.

As previously mentioned, I suggest you to check the journals from your speciality for time to accept a paper. This is often stated at the beginning of every published article.. You can also find average acceptance times in the journals home page and even some tables comparing journals if you surf the net. It would also be very useful to ask some colleagues that have experiece publishing in your field.

Also, before submitting your work, I would suggest to carefully study the journal scope, and take a good look at the type of papers they publish, to make sure that yours fits in. That would increase your chances to get your paper accepted and save you time too.

I have done it before and i won't advice anyone to do it because you might end up getting your article accepted in all and you now need to choose.

so i advice you send it to just one publisher and wait for their response but if you are not satisfied with their response, you can send it else where

I am aware of only one journal that accepts, and even encourages, simultaneous submission of the same MS to other journals: The Journal of Universal Rejection. As the journal name indicates, they have a 100.000% rejection rate, so they don't really care.

On a more serious note, and as already mentioned in other posts, steer clear of any simultaneous submissions. Avoid also the simultaneous submission of even remotely similar MSs to different journals. Doing either thing is sure to ruin your reputation as a scientist.

I had waited 1 year for the first commentr from "Bulletin of material science". Yes its a wonder why multiple submission is prohibitted! If the MS get published in one journal rest of the journals will automatically reject know? 

What ever may be the improvement in technology and science, no one knows how to process the MS faster. Japanese Journal of Applied Physics is very fast.

If the review is taking too long, one can always withdraw the submission and try a different journal. Also, monthly nagging of the editor can sometimes shake loose a review.
