Dear Prof. Ashok Pundir - I actually like to see "recommendations" not "reads". The number of citations is skewed because it depends on the field and the country where articles are published. For example,Google Scholar shows thousands of citations for a single article in psychology or mathematics published din China and India but none of the engineering articles published in great journals comes close!

It is observed that research articles are read by the researchers not only from a particular field but also from other areas. This may lead to appreciation and recommendations by other researchers and also may help in interdisciplinary research. However, this may not lead to increase in number of citations.

my research is based on pneumonia, so the most important thing is that the results of our research serve to improve the clinical management of patients and continue to answer many clinical questions, so if I am satisfied that my articles are read more than citations

I believe they are connected. Readers should have an idea about your research by reading. If it is related to their fields, they can recommend or cite your research.

The number of reads for me is more than I expected but I prefer to be cited. I have an article which is published online in an American journal got more than 6000 reads and more than 4000 downloads but only 1 citation. Honestly, I am not satisfied with the number of citations it received.

In a research paper or any of your article on your professional line it is not necessary that one should go citation of an author or any well popular book correlated with your program it is immaterial if your articles are read by quiet good readers or viewers .

Then your article is read by readers they will do not evaluated that the article represent any quotation or views of well known authors

Yes....certainly I do. Increased read, citations or recommendations for an article increases visibility of the same, altogether. To reach an increased number of readers is indeed satisfactory for an author.

However, citations itself offer more credit technically in the sense that the particular article is being cited in other articles for other journals by many other people.

Recommendations are unique for some platforms like RG with another kind of recognition of some satisfied readers to whom the said article has touched or created certain impact.

Personally, I love to have my article read first then cited.

I think the citation index is the most important

In general, I am happy to share my work here on RG, no matter of RG score, but I prefer the following order:

1. The number of citation

2. The number of recommendation

3. The number of reads

My ultimate goal is that my research gets used to improve public health practice, policy, and communities we target for population health improvements. So if my work reaches my targeted readership through reads of my work or citations, that is immaterial to me. I am pretty certain that there is some correlation between number of publication reads, number of citations, and number of public health interventions benefiting from my research.

Yes, but we all crave for more readership and citation of our publications.

Of course, it means that the article draws the attention of researchers

The “reads” number is preferable but for me, being cited is more desirable.

Dear Dr Ashok Pundir, even though seeing people reading our work may be quite impressive and encouraging but citation and recommendation indicate the level of acceptability of the work which I think i will be more satisfy with.

The question behind it: a) are we on RG for our ego or b) are on RG to get our articles read by scientists who we don't know or c) both reasons. I am now if I remember well on RG starting at 2015. I am so happy that even article, books and chapters of around 1979 and later have been read. I have to admit that my RG score increases. That stimulates me to publish my new publications on RG. Any reasearcher should feel self satisfaction regardless of numbers of readers... Once working hard, one should match the requirements of writing papers.

I believe overall everything matters. Citations, comments, reads, recommendations etc. I can say I am satisfied, but as always there is room for the better. Each one has different expecations.

The number of citations does not determine the goodness of a work even if published, almost always paid, in major magazines. In fact, a work can be cited because it is a masterpiece or as an example of superficiality, incompetence, non-scientific methodology, bibliographic ignorance, bad faith, etc. In addition, the number of citations depends on the topic and the number of researchers studying the specific subject, as already mentioned by other colleagues participating in this discussion. For example, how many researchers are studying "vaquita" (Phocoena sinus)? Very few. Therefore, a work on vaquita will be cited very few times but will be read by many researchers and perhaps also very recommended as the vaquita is becoming extinct (there are only 12 specimens left of vaquita).

Citations are the most important for me. but I feel satisfied with more reads and recommendations.

More citations means I have a better impact on research community. This how I see it Though I am also satisfied with more readings and definitely more recommendations

Citations, whatever we presume still remain the most scientific & professional way to be acknowledged. Recommendations & reads again weigh in RG scoring but not outside RG.

Moreover impact factor calculation is always based cited work, so they are the most important ones.

Number of reads, citations and recommendations are all good indicators of how our research is being digested in the scientific community but NOT a concrete yardstick for measuring the quality of the work.

I am satisfied with either of them (reads or citations).
