It is very interesting for me to ask this question. I asked this question first to a professor in a seminar while I was a young college student back in 1990. Then I forgot about this question for years.
Then yesterday (12/29/2013) a midnight dream reminded me to this old question again. Then I searched in google for some clues. It is interesting to find out that there are new interests on ontological proof written by Godel around 70s. One article says as follows:
"That is where Christoph Benzmüller of Berlin's Free University and his colleague, Bruno Woltzenlogel Paleo of the Technical University in Vienna, come in. Using an ordinary MacBook computer, they have shown that Gödel's proof was correct -- at least on a mathematical level -- by way of higher modal logic. Their initial submission on the arXiv.org research article server is called "Formalization, Mechanization and Automation of Gödel's Proof of God's Existence." "

Finding the best article may take few hours, finding the God himself takes a nano-second for some and for others it takes ages before they get there, Socrates took 96 years to be there. Those who never made it, are the ones who never wanted to be there.
Scientists recognize experimental proof as the scientific proof. They do not recognize experiential proof as a scientific proof. God can not be proved experimentally but he can be experienced in a personal experience. The nature of this experience resulting from union with God is far more superior to conjugal experience in matrimony and is everlasting in nature. Those who have experienced God can only give vague description of it. Describing the taste of sugar is one
thing and actually experiencing the taste. altogather different thing. Once a very young girl asked her just married sister, "Tell me sister, what kind of joy you experience when you are with your husband?" The sister replied, "You grow up and get married yourself, then you will know everything about it."
Pre-monastic name of Swami Vivekananda was Narendra. He met his Guru Sri Ramakrishna when he was nineteen. One day Narendra asked following question to his Guru.
NARENDRA: Sir, have you seen God?
SRI RAMAKRISHNA: Yes, I have seen God... I have seen Him more tangibly than I see you. I have talked to Him more intimately than I am talking to you... But, my child, who wants to see God?... People shed jugs of tears for money, wife, and children, but who does that for God? If they weep for God for just one day, they would certainly see Him.

1. Objective scientific proofs don't exist
Ultimately, a scientist needs to have faith on his/her data acquiring senses, brain etc. We have to have faith that we are seeing/hearing/touching/thinking the "reality".
Despite the observations being inherently subjective to every living being, they agree on most descriptions of what they see/hear/touch etc. which leads them to have faith that they see the reality, or in the worst case that there is a common illusion.
A "scientific" proof is based on these faiths, therefore, it is not in the true sense, scientific.
2. The question "does God exist" has very little meaning because different people have different conceptions of God.
When Einstein said God doesn't play dice, he may not have had the conception of an old person in the sky.
Newton also talked about God, but he thought that "3D space" was the sensory organ of God, because space is everywhere, therefore God is conscious of everything at once. There are so many conceptions of God.
Some people believe in a God who created the universe and then died, and the universe is going on its own since then. Some people believe that God gives you only one chance and throws you in hell or heaven for eternity.
3. No scientific proof for existence of God
Most of the cultures distinguish the reality as composed of two varieties: material and spiritual. Following the argument that there should be a source of everything (again, having faith on our experience), a modern scientist may ponder that a cup comes from clay, clay comes from earth, earth came from sun, sun came from things that came from big-bang, big-bang came from - maybe something else; where does this end? Philosophies which propose a God, generally say that God created everything, but nobody created God because he is of a different nature i.e. spiritual, and material causation doesn't apply to God. But, science deals with everything that we see/hear/touch etc., in other words material, therefore no scientific proof is possible for the existence of God.
Only logical inferences can be derived(which again depends on our faith on the brain's capability and experience). Some people may find the above written text logical, some may not. Some scientists agree with others, some don't, espcially on very perplexing topics like this, of which we have limited experience. So, even if one thinks that they have a proof of existence of God, others may not think that it's a proof.
