Our Equitest is down and failed to get repaired. We are searching for alternatives to perform SOT.
In terms of different conditions (eyes open/close, with/without ankle joint feedback, with/without fake vision information), it measures the COP by the force platform.
It has been a while since I researched in that domain, but as I recall, the SOT is a creation of Neurocom and is specific to the Equitest platform. However, certain principles can be examined, depending on your purpose for assessment. How are you intending to use the results?
Hi Jason, thank you for your response. Most of our assessments are about the integrated performance on balance, not even a clinical judgement. That's way I think there might be other system to replace it.

Although I don't know much about the balance tests, it seems like there is something called "CTSIB" and "mCTSIB" that could used as an alternative to the SOT we used in PolyU.

Most of the academic institutes in US use Equitest or other higher format of balance systems from NeuroCom, a division of Natus, for SOT. Dr. Nashner, the inventor of the original CDP system, did left the company and joined Bertec and developed another line of balance products and it has the ability to test the SOT.
For clinical institutes, most of them use Equitest. Some of the facilities use Biodex Balance system. For military facility, they use more expensive product such as CAREN. I am not sure if it has the ability to test SOT. Of course, we can always use mCTSIB to assess the ability to use the sensory systems.

i think you can use Berg balance scale for adults or pediatric balance scale for children as an alternative test for balance and equilibrium.
Wow, I let this discussion get away from me. My experience with the Berg was that it was not particularly useful for healthy populations. Essentially, the only test items that differentiated individuals were the tandem standing (also known as the Rhomberg stance or Rhomberg test) and the single-legged standing. Moreover, with it's relatively crude scaling (as I recall, 1 - 4 nominal scale), the statistics of the test were such that I observed ceiling effects in a population of normal, healthy/active older adults (aged 65+). For a population of sedentary older adults at the same age, we really only needed the two previously mentioned items to discriminate. It was nowhere near as informative as the Neurocom SOT.
