I think more isolated because of their dedication to community service and exploration and research

strange but innovative. they r risky people so that they are brave enough to think about unique situations and solutions; they do not love being copies of others

I think Scientists live a busy and isolated life which look strange to others.

Somehow strange to those outside their space.

Some of them seem more weird, but some of them are adequately smart.

Others see them as people living in another world because of their lifestyle marked with rigorous study and research and rarely have time for family and other social engagements.

It depends on someone personality. Is not it? Anyone having different look may be strange one!

Thanks to everyone on the comments, it seems that only the scientists are fully understanding between themselves.

Persons totally devoted in their work of choice can not concentrate in many events or subjects which is considered as less important by their busy brain. Many such works are considered as very important to most of the common people.

So, such persons are consideted as abnormal.

You can not expect from a female scientist totally involved in her work is also very much conscious about latest brand of lip stick!

Not really. Every personality has different flavour. Some scientists may be extrovert and funny while some lawyers may be strange & peculiar. Profession seldom defines one's personality.

Yes it is expected. Reason being abnormal discovery / knowledge contribution needs abnormal thinking & doing.

Yes. Strange is the definition for mist scientists. It's because our passion for research and the academia paints us differently in our societies. I recall a moment in my early career as a PhD scholar when I was rehearsing off mind some of my lines in an upcoming conference. I was mistaken as someone insane by some onlookers who reported to my friends that I was losing my mind!

Researchers are always searching for the scientific thruth. If this affects their personality until they will also search for the thruth in all their social activities. In this case; they might look strange and little alone living in their own world. All this because in real life; there is no scientific thruth but only relative thruth. In reality everyone tries to defend his/her own version of thruth.

I would agree with Abhimanyu, we probably don't want to group people according to their professions. If today we see some people in the scientific fields with some unique personalities, we come away with the impression that they are somehow strange, and we extrapolate/conclude that scientists are somehow strange, then how about tomorrow when we feel some musicians carry certain unique personalities? What can we say? Are they also somehow strange?
