Through history we know of situations in which great scientists have had problems with no collegiality . He talked about theft of ideas, patents etc. What scientists are today? Is there jealousy between them? Do We Want to Help or Deny Someone? How do the bosses watch the success of their team members? Is it a threat to their dismissal, in case the student is over the teacher or ..?
Researcher needs to work an both individual and as a team.
In my opinion, the researcher should have some privacy in some works and this requires individual action to avoid the theft of ideas. In the same time, some research works require joint efforts between researchers and working as a team to achieve the best.

Interesting question and replies.
I believe that nowadays things have changed since there is more research around this topic. Not only from scientific but also social point of view. For example
1) Communication, collaboration online or not has developed
2) Research on diversity and individuality has been promoted and studied.
3) More is known the Nature of Science
I would expect such developments to change the way people view scientists and argue or interact with them.

From personal experience, the majority are collegial but some are not. Ego plays a role.
